Ali would make links with previous discussions where appropriate which helped to identify themes - this increased my understanding of how a number of smaller issues I brought to the sessions actually fed into the same challenge.

The location was easy to access and I enjoyed the differing terrain and scenery throughout the route.
Ali's coaching style suited me - he listened carefully and was gentle, yet assertive at bringing my attention back to the focus of the session if I became distracted. There was time at the beginning of the session to talk about any learning from the previous session and / or the tasks completed since. I felt each session was client centred and Ali followed my lead in what I wanted to discuss. Ali would invite me to engage in a task between each session, explaining the benefits and reasons for each which I found very helpful.
I had limited experience of coaching prior to seeing Ali however the movement involved in walking coaching was really helpful in keeping thoughts and ideas flowing. The changing environment provided opportunities for the use of metaphor and the forward motion of walking gave the feeling of forward movement in the area of focus.
I left each session feeling hopeful about the possibility of change and with renewed motivation for continuing to work through the barriers I faced. It really helped having Ali validate my experience and feelings. Having a goal or task to focus on between sessions ensured continued momentum which helped me maintain a positive mindset.
I have more self confidence as a result of engaging in the tasks Ali and I agreed I should focus on. I have a greater understanding of my values and the importance of using these to inform my decision making. I am more open to the idea of change and taking risks and have increased clarity about what could be possible for my future.
